January 19th, 2013
I had participated in this race twice and then for various reasons was unable to do it for the last two years. My experiences had been pleasant so when I saw the invite for the 2013 incarnation I thought why not.
When it was brought up at breakfast one morning several people thought I had lost what little sense they felt I had. Apparently in the intervening two years bad things had happened and a lot of people were turned off by this event. I had already signed up so I showed up the morning of the race with very low expectations.
Chris, Cindy, Flo, Lynne, Christine, and I were all participating. Flo, being the overachiever that she is, had signed up for the 10k. The rest of us were doing the 5k.
Picking up my bib and t-shirt went very smoothly. My recollection was of a very small race, but boy has it grown. There were a number of vendor booths giving away all sorts of swag and there were a lot more participants that I remembered.
The 5k course is just a little less than two loops around Ontario Mills. It is a bit of a boring course, but I walked with Cindy and the time just flew by. The weather, which I had been told was problematic in the past, was absolutely perfect.
After the race we went across the street to Panera and all of us got a nice little bite to eat.
All in all, it was a good day. I will be doing this race again.
